Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec) Admission to Secondary 1

Under the Direct School Admission Exercise for Secondary Schools, the school will consider applications from those who seek to be admitted to Secondary 1 in 2011 based on their qualities in specified performing arts or sports and academic achievements.

CRITERIA
Minimum requirements to qualify for the initial short-listing are set out in the application form.

Auditions/ trials/ interviews will be conducted for short-listed candidates on one of the following days:

                                                    Thursday 15 July, Tuesday 20 July.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Applicants should complete and submit their applications with the required attachments to reach the school by

                                                          Friday 2 July 2010, 5.00pm

  • There will be a non-refundable administrative fee of $25 for every application. Payment to be made by cheque payable to Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.
  • Attached photocopies will need to be certified true copies but applicants should be prepared to produce the originals at a later stage.
  • Applicants are to focus on only one area of expertise / talent / interest in their application.
  • Applicants who are not studying in MOE schools will need to obtain a Registration Number from the Ministry of Education’s Customer Service Centre (MOE CSC) before they are issued with a DSA Application Form.
  • Returning Singaporeans (both SC and SPR) who are currently not studying in MOE schools are also required to have a Registration Number.
  • To participate in DSA-Sec, these students should be not more than 4 years overage for SC/PR and 2 years overage for International Students (i.e non-SC/SPR).
  • For 2010 DSA – Sec exercise and beyond, international students without DP, IEO and whose parents are non-SC/SPR, are required to pass the AEIS.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
The school will consider all applications submitted in accordance with its requirements set out below and in the application form and applications will be considered in the following stages:

  1. The school will reject at its discretion such applications as are found to be unsuitable or irrelevant to its requirements.
  2. Those who qualify for further consideration (suitable and relevant) will be notified of registration procedures for the written test (a psychometric test of nonverbal reasoning) and dates for trials/auditions/interviews/other tests.
  3. Shortlisted candidates will need to pay $45, being the cost of the psychometric test. This is over and above the administration fee of $25
  4. The school will decide on the final candidates to whom Confirmed Offers will be made.  All offers are conditional upon the applicant continuing to apply herself to the area of focus in Secondary School. Those applicants not given Confirmed Offers may be placed on the Waiting List or Rejected.
  5. In any event, letters informing applicants of the outcome of their applications will be issued by 3 September 2010

No one deserving of a place in the school need be discouraged because of financial considerations.  There are financial assistance schemes in place to support such cases.  All those interested in SCGS education and who can see their talents advanced at SCGS should apply.
