Reflective, Experiential, Academic and Proactive (R.E.A.P.) Programme |
|
The R.E.A.P. class-based service-learning programme @ SCGS is an instructional strategy for the upper secondary classes that combines meaningful community service with curriculum-based learning. Pupils improve their academic skills and develop character and leadership qualities by applying what they have learnt in school to recognized community needs in the real world; they then reflect on their experience to reinforce the link between their service and their learning. The programme therefore encourages Reflective, Experiential, Academic and Proactive learning through service. In essence, the pupils learn to serve and serve to learn. Pupils initiate purposeful community involvement partnership projects with stakeholders (e.g. NUH, Institute of Mental Health, Rainbow Centre, Prison, Hospice Care Association, etc) in giving back to society. These classes have engaged the community in very meaningful projects and helped make a difference to those in need.
