The objective of SCGS Robotics Club is to equip our girls with IT skills so that they become innovative thinkers. It is anchored on two domains of learning. Namely inquiry based learning and problem based learning. The environment is one which entails the pupils to have hands-on experience in building robots and using computers to program them and making them move.
Thus, Robotics is a field which challenges children’s ability to innovate and problem solve. In addition, it enhances their thinking skills and team work which are essential skills for the 21st century workers. The Basic, Intermediate and Advance training programmes are streamlined to give pupils exposure to robotics skills and simultaneously prepare them for the annual National Junior Robotics Competition, organized by the Singapore Science Centre. The NJRC is all about problem solving skills, through the creative thinking and independent learning of students. The competition uses the LEGO NXT Robotics kit and students take on the challenge of forming a team to work together on:
-
Assembling a robot
-
Programming the robot
-
Producing a 2 min video presentation
-
Conducting research
-
Team Interview
-
Outperforming the other robots
