Admission to Primary 1
In Singapore, a child enters Primary 1 in the year she turns 7 years. All pupils seeking admission to Primary 1 for the first time, including those interested in seeking admission to SCGS, must participate in the respective Primary One Registration Exercise which is a national exercise conducted from July – Sept in the year preceding that.
The registration exercise is carried out according to discrete Phases and the eligible may only register on the prescribed days for their phase. You may refer to the Ministry of Education website for information on the different phases and eligibility and registration procedures.
Admission to SCGS outside the Primary 1 Registration Exercise
Pupils interested in seeking admission to SCGS outside the Primary 1 Registration Exercise need to sit an admission test conducted by the school. Tests are conducted annually in late March/April and October, subject to projected availability of vacancies. In addition, the school may conduct ad hoc tests on a case by case basis for her niche areas.
Applications for admissions can be submitted using the ‘’ which can be downloaded from this site. The completed form, together with any supporting documents, should be faxed or sent to the school. Applicants will be notified by the school of the details of the admission test only if a test is going to be conducted for the level applied for.
Applicants will have to sit the English Language, Mathematics and Mother Tongue Language (if applicable) papers. Pupils may seek a waiver from sitting for the Mother Tongue Language paper if they have obtained approval for exemption from Mother Tongue Language from the Ministry of Education.
The following administrative fees are applicable for application of admission tests:
- Singapore Citizens are to pay an administrative fee of $25/- per applicant
- Singapore Permanent Residents/Foreign Students will pay $60 for a total of the 3 subjects, i.e. $30/- for the 1st subject and $15/- for each subsequent subject
Returning Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR)
Applications by returning Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) who are not on Leave of Absence from or registered in another Singapore school are not required to sit admission tests. The offer of a place is subject to available vacancies and competing demands. Please note that the school has a long waitlist. International Student Admissions
Starting from admissions into academic year 2009 onwards, MOE will be conducting a centralised admissions exercise around Sep-Oct of each year for new international students who wish to join our mainstream public primary schools in January of the following year. This new exercise – the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) – will involve a centralised test on English and Mathematics.
